The Final Score
– Jaci Burton
Genre : Contemporary romance, New Adult, Sport romance
Rating : ♥♥♥♥
My review : The Final Score by Jaci Burton is a friends to lovers kind of story so…needless to say, I’m in! You must know by now that I can’t stay away from this theme. I just love it. I could read 100+ books with the same theme and still want more. This is my first book by this author and I’m really glad I got to read her work.
♥ The story ♥
Nathan and Mia have been best friends for years. Today, they need each other more than ever as they’re facing stressful life changes. Nathan is taking his father’s place as quarterback for his former team and has a lot of pressure as everyone expects him to live up to his father’s reputation. And Mia is starting her own sports management company. They both need stress relief but more importantly they need each other’s support. Throw in that they try to resist each other in order not to ruin their friendship and we’re in for a lot of sexual tension and hot talks.
When I started this book I found some flaws I thought would put me off this book. I thought the story was interesting but sometimes the scenes were dragged. Also, the dialogues felt quite unnatural at times. But I felt this way only for the 10 first pages. After that, it changed totally. In a good way.
The Final Score is a best-friends-to-lovers, sports romance kind of story. Two themes I absolutely love so it was almost impossible for me not to enjoy this read. Nathan and Mia have an amazing relationship. They trust each other in a way you can only admire and I loved how blunt and honest they were with each other. You could feel how deeply they cared for each other through the writing and that’s an exceptional job.
There wasn’t unnecessary drama about their relationship. The intrigue was something else and it made things so much more beautiful. I really liked this original approach. Also, if you like big loving families gathering, this series is for you!
All in all, it was still a light, enjoyable and sexy read. I definitely recommend for lovers of sports romance.
Have you read it ? What are your thoughts ? I’m curious to know 🙂
More details (Goodreads) :
Nathan Riley is ready to follow in the footsteps of his famous football player father. He’s been drafted as quarterback for his dad’s former team, and his sports future is bright. When his friend Mia Cassidy moves to the same city, their years-long friendship suddenly sparks hot, reminding him of the one night they had together in college that he can never forget.
Like Nathan, Mia is from a sports dynasty family and embarking on an incredible new career—as founder of her own sports management company. Her friendship with Nathan means everything to her, and tossing sex into the mix again could jeopardize it all. But the chemistry between them has always sizzled, and it isn’t long before Mia realizes she wants more with Nathan than just late-night talks and pizza.
Passion has a funny way of changing the rules, and soon Nathan and Mia realize that to win it all, they’ll have to make an unexpected play for love.
