Genre : Contemporary romance, New Adult, Romantic Comedy

♥ The story

The Allure of Dean Harper by R.S. Grey tells the story of Lily, Joséphine’s best friend in The Allure of Julian Lefray  and Dean Harper, Julian’s best friend. The story continues where we left it in the first book. Lily arrives in New-York to try and get her career started in the culinary industry while Dean is the owner of numerous renowned restaurants. They both are strong-headed and when they meet it makes sparks.

♥ My review

To be honest, I slightly preferred the first book, but really only slightly. It’s a matter of preferences. If you like one book,

you’ll definitely like the other as it’s the same recipe for success : lots of humour, romance, spicy dialogues and a glamorous setting. The only difference is that where you have sweetness between Julian and Joséphine, you have roughness between Lily and Dean.

♥ Dean

So I cheated on my favourite male character type by preferring the seductive Julian Lefray. But I loved Dean Harper too ! He’s the perfect illustration of my favourite genre : arrogant, hard-working, unbelievably smart and good-looking.

Sincerely, R.S. Grey had me at this in this book :

Because she was a complete knockout ? No. Because she was utterly fucking up my bar.

That’s when I fell in love with Dean Harper’s character. I don’t want to spoil so I won’t say more but let’s say I loved every reaction, be it Dean’s or Lily’s. In a way, they surprise us and it was really enjoyable.

♥ Lily

About Lily, she’s, like her friend, really funny. However she’s so much more confident and nothing scares her. She speaks for herself and doesn’t take shit from anyone. I loved that about her. She goes for what she wants. It’s a great chemistry between those two strong-headed characters 🙂

Moments I loved :

Either I succumbed to my fate and drowned, or I got out and let Dean see my life-changing rack, thus ruining him for all future women from there on out. – Lily

She was like a villain, leaving a trail of blood and hints meant to lure me into a trap. – Dean

He is rude and opinionated and a workaholic. He has the ego of Kayne West and I hate him. – Lily

Have you read it ? What are your thoughts ? I’m curious to know 🙂

More about The Allure of Dean Harper (Goodreads) :

Subject: You’re a flippin’ idiot

Good morning my dear, naive friend, I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow

Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c’mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.

He’s the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it’s followed by “don’t stop.”

Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil… and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.

Regretfully yours, Lily.
