THE BEAU & THE BELLE – R.S. Grey – RELEASE DAY + REVIEW

The Beau & The Belle
R.S. Grey

Genre : Adult romantic comedy
♥♥♥♥♥ (insert infinite number of hearts here)

First of all, I want to start this post by talking about this amazing author.

There’s no way you have missed my love for R.S. Grey‘s work. It’s all over this blog, my Bookstagram and wherever I talk about books.

I am a true fan of her work and I really feel like there’s no better writer in her genre. Her novels are the perfect romantic comedies. I won’t ever stop recommending her work whenever I can to everyone because I really feel sad for those who haven’t read an R.S. Grey book yet. You’re missing out! So if you want to smile, laugh and fall in love, then pick up one of her book. Her characters are all endearing and you get attached so easily because they’re real! Her plotting is perfection and full of pleasant surprises. I really wish her work was even more recognised.

Apart from her books, R.S. Grey really is one of the most genuine author. Last thing I’ll advise you is to follow her on Instagram. Her stories are fun, real and you get a true behind the scene on her work (also adorable glimpses of her life!). She really is as inspiring as the heroines she writes about. Oh, and she has a Facebook group too! Full of fun interactions and exclusive contents from time to time.

Anyways, now that I confessed all the love I had for this talented author and her books, you’ll get how strong my next point is. You’re ready? Here it is : The Beau and the Belle is officially my new favourite book by her (which was previously The Foxe and the Hound). And that’s saying something. Keep reading to know why…

♥ The story

The Beau & The Belle : Beau Fortier starred in most of my cringe-worthy teenage fantasies. I met him when I was a junior in high school, a time that revolved exclusively around bad hair, failed forays into flirting, and scientific inquiries into which brand of toilet paper worked best for stuffing bras.

That is, until Beau moved into the small guest house just beyond my bedroom window.

A 24-year-old law student at Tulane, Beau was as mysterious to me as second base (both in baseball and in the bedroom). He was older. Intimidating. Hot. Boys my age had chicken legs and chubby cheeks. Beau had calloused hands and a jaw cut from steel. Our interactions were scarce—mostly involving slight stalking on my end—and yet deep down, I desperately hoped he saw me as more of a potential lover than a lovesick loser.

Turns out, I was fooling myself. My fragile ego learned that lesson the hard way.

Now, ten years later, we’re both back in New Orleans, and guess who suddenly can’t take his eyes off little ol’ me.

My old friend, Mr. Fortier.

But things have changed. I’m older now—poised and confident. My ego wears a bulletproof vest. The butterflies that once filled my stomach have all perished.

When I was a teenager, Beau warned me to guard my heart.

Let’s hope he knows how to guard his.

♥ My review

If you like fast-paced, well written and amazingly described story, you’ll love The Beau & The Belle.

What made me fall in love with this book :

The Beau and the Belle is the occasion to relive your teenage years. The good and the bad parts. And I really loved that. You can easily identify to (almost) everything Lauren is facing. The crush, the first kiss, the insecurities, the innocent and naive way to view life. This made me go back in time and it felt good! Also, 90s born generation, get ready for awesome references that will make you miss this time.

The age gap between Beau and Lauren. I love when the male character is older. So if you’re like me…you’ll enjoy that immensely. This story was all I was expecting and so much more.

The New Orleans setting. This was definitely one of the best things about this book. It was so well described, it made me want to visit. I’m not from the US and I’ve never been there but if I ever visit, this will be my first destination.

The characters : Lauren was adorable. So genuine and funny. I loved how she stayed true to herself and how loyal she was. Beau was perfection. Need I say more ? Everything you expect an older guy to be. Dependable, mature, mysterious and so, so sexy. Their chemistry was mind-blowing and their love and attraction so endearing. I really liked both their families as well. They were some really fun parts and scenes. Okay, I’m off to re-read it!

I’m so excited for you all to read it. If you need a light, beautiful and fun read, this is it! And if it’s your first book by this author, it’ll definitely get you hooked to her style (believe me!).

Books I recommend but never reviewed – #1 : Enemies to lovers

Books I recommend but never reviewed : enemies to lovers books - laylareads

Hello dear and amazing readers ! 🙂

I keep chatting about books everywhere lately and absolutely loving it. Be it on Instagram or Goodreads (by the way, if you feel like it, join me there for endless discussions and mutual recommendations of books).

While doing so, I kept thinking of how many books I absolutely loved and kept recommending but never properly reviewed, be it here or on Goodreads.

So I thought to gather them by theme in blog posts. I’m thinking of making them into a series : Books I recommend but never reviewed, that I’ll post every week, on Mondays (Gosh, I hope I will really commit to this and not say it but do nothing).

What I’ll be writing are not full and detailed reviews, but more like mini-reviews (at least, I’ll try to make them short). So I’ll put the GR links to the books so you can check the detailed summary.

Please tell me if the format is okay or if you have any suggestions on how I can make it enjoyable for you. Also tell me if those kind of posts would interest you 🙂

So here’s my Top 5 of the enemies-to-lovers trope :

#1

The Hating Game – Sally Thorne
♥♥♥♥♥

This is one of my favorite romantic comedy in the world! If anyone asks me for a good book in the enemies-to-lovers or office-romance category, this is the first one that comes to my mind. Joshua and Lucy work in the same office, right across from each other and play all kinds of games which has the same goal : making clear how much they hate the other.

Lucy is this really short, people-pleaser, vintage lover woman. Joshua is this really serious, intimidating, and awfully handsome man. But hating someone so Read More

Genre : Contemporary romance, New Adult, Romantic Comedy
♥♥♥♥♥

The Fortunate Ones by R.S. Grey was one of my most anticipated release of this year. Every time this author releases something I have to get my hands on it ASAP. It simply means a guaranteed good time for me. And once again she did not disappoint. I don’t know how she does it every single time. She’s truly talented.

Also, I had the great honor of receiving an ARC of this book for which I thank the author again, in exchange of an honest review.

♥ The story

Brooke Davenport works as a cabana girl at Twin Oaks Country Club for sometime now, thanks to her elder sister Ellie. But that is not her dream job. She has a diploma and a talent for languages she actually plans to use. Having spent some time in Europe as an au pair, she wants to find that kind of job again and be able to teach. The only positive point in working at the country club is the gorgeous James Ashwood. She can admire him from afar and be content with that. Until the moment he asks her to “Come and have a seat“. Then, everything changes.

♥ The story

The Allure of Dean Harper by R.S. Grey tells the story of Lily, Joséphine’s best friend in The Allure of Julian Lefray  and Dean Harper, Julian’s best friend. The story continues where we left it in the first book. Lily arrives in New-York to try and get her career started in the culinary industry while Dean is the owner of numerous renowned restaurants. They both are strong-headed and when they meet it makes sparks.

♥ My review

To be honest, I slightly preferred the first book, but really only slightly. It’s a matter of preferences. If you like one book,
