Roomies – Christina Lauren

– Christina Lauren

Genre : Contemporary romance, New Adult

It’s been more than three weeks since I finished this book but I couldn’t write my review right away because I was too overwhelmed. Also, I was seriously lost after reading it and didn’t know how to rate it. This book really confused me. I loved it, then hated it and finally adored it. I guess if it made me feel so much, it might have been a great read.
I’m sincerely struggling on how to write my review. I want to stay simple and just say if I liked it or not and why, as I do for any other reads but I can’t talk about Roomies without getting personal. After hesitating a lot, I decided to just write whatever comes to my mind, whatever I feel like writing. This blog is a place I created to share my love of books and I love reading because of how it makes me feel. So here goes and I won’t blame you if you just can’t go through this review (apologies in advance for the ranting, haha!).

♥ The story

Roomies : Marriages of convenience are so…inconvenient.
Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a big-time musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway—until he admits his student visa has expired and he’s in the country illegally.

Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realise that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?

♥ My review

What a rollercoaster ride! Like I said, I felt so many different emotions during this read.

First, I was really ecstatic. Five chapters in and everything is perfect. I meet this hero which is irresistible. I mean a sexy green-eyed Irish musician. Need I say more ? Oh yeah, the accent…

The Goal
– Elle Kennedy

Genre : Sports romance, New Adult, Contemporary romance

Book 1 | Book 2 | Book 3 | Book 4

When I started this series it was with no real expectations. I loved The Deal , liked The Mistake , absolutely LOVED The Score and as excited as I was about The Goal , I didn’t think I would read something better than Dean’s book from that series. But God…Tucker

♥ General impression

From the other books we have a certain image of him, the caring one, the mature one, the sensible one… but the stars of the hockey team took too much of the focus in the previous books for me to have really noticed him. I’m so happy Tucker got his book because it was amazing and it is definitely my favorite.

Book 1 | Book 2 | Book 3 | Book 4

I absolutely loved The Deal when I first read it. I liked the main characters but not only. The whole hockey team, the great group dynamic. Elle Kennedy has created such endearing characters, it’s so hard to let go of the books. So I dived into the The Mistake and it was good as well. But from the very first book of the series I was waiting for this. Waiting for Dean’s story and… Elle Kennedy didn’t disappoint.

♥ Thank you

I remember pre-ordering this book in October-November after reading The Deal and The Mistake. I couldn’t wait for it, because since the very first book I absolutely loved Dean and desperately wanted to read his story. Generally, when I’m this excited , I fear I might be disappointed as my expectations are really high. In December, I had the great surprise of receiving an ARC for this book (and I thank Elle Kennedy and her publisher for it again). So I dived into it right away and I couldn’t put it down until I had finished. This book was everything I expected and so much more.

♥ General impression

The reason why I liked this book so much is because it made me feel so many things ! At the start

I remember reading The Mistake when it came out in 2015. I loved the first book with Garrett and Hannah and I enjoyed Elle Kennedy’s writing  so I was really looking forward to reading this one.

Genre : New-AdultContemporary romanceRomantic comedies
Notation : ♥♥♥♥♥

My review : I don’t think anyone has escaped the craze around Dating you / Hating you’s release by Christina Lauren. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and when I did, I read it in one go. I didn’t sleep for an entire night to finish it. It was that good.

In general

First, I’ll have to say I’m so pleasantly surprised by this book. I’ve loved all their previous series (some books more than others). However, I didn’t expect something like Dating you / Hating you. It was something else entirely and still, you could feel it was Christina Lauren. Their humor is there, their endearing characters as well but the subject is way more serious. I found that their characters were so well thought, the story was more mature. This book is really a favorite. Well done to those wonderful authors who succeeded in writing something a bit different from what they’re used to and doing it amazingly!
