Summary (Goodreads)

I’ve lost it. 🙁 The only thing in the world I wasn’t supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It’s been in Magnus’s family for three generations. And now the very same day his parents are coming, I’ve lost it. The very same day! Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive 🙂 !!
Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry her ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her “happily ever after” begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring in a hotel fire drill but in the panic that follows, her phone is stolen. As she paces shakily around the lobby, she spots an abandoned phone in a trash can. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except that the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading his messages and wading into his personal life.

What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls, and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents . . . she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

My review

Stroked was my first book from Meghan Quinn. The blurb appealed to me strongly as I like sports romance. Also, the reviews were good so I wanted to give it a go.

General impression

First, I must admit that it took me too much time to get into the story and as long to finish it.
It could have been an awesome read but it turned out to be just an okay read.  I felt there were too many unnecessary details. For example, Bellini’s POV chapters… it’s not to be mean but I seriously couldn’t care.

Otherwise, Stroked was…well, ok. The love story was kind of nice but not particularly sweet or endearing. I didn’t love it nor hated it and I think that’s the worst. I mean, if I can’t get the feel while reading, I don’t see the point.

The characters

Well, I feel really bad about saying this about a book because I know there’s serious work behind it. But I’m always honest while giving my views and I must say I sincerely didn’t get attached to any of the characters.

Reese : On paper, he’s totally the kind of character I like. And I guess he was. It’s just that I couldn’t feel the chemistry with the female character and when it’s the case in a romance, I must say I’m too disappointed to care about each character. But on a more objective note, yes, Reese is likable. He’s your super good-looking alpha male hero and acts possessively towards Paisley which is nice.

Paisley : I must say she’s quite original. She’s strong, driven, determined and is working on saving her career. She is pretty nice.

Bellini : That’s seriously the biggest flaw of this book for me. Bellini is Paisley’s boss and Reese’s so-called ‘girlfriend’. She has the role of the villain in this story. But what I don’t get is why does she take that much place. She was really uninteresting and annoying.

To conclude, I was a bit disappointed by this book. But that’s my opinion only. Many enjoyed it and I guess the story has its appeal. If you can get into it then it might be a very enjoyable read for you.

Have you read it ? What are your thoughts ? Most importantly, what did you think of Bellini (I need to know!) ?

Summary (Goodreads)

Reese King: Olympic medalist, underwear model, Greek god.

His body is chiseled from rock, sculpted by the weight room, and refined by water.

On a daily basis his skin is completely bare for everyone to see, tan and defined, only covered up by a minuscule piece of spandex. There is no denying his sex appeal.

I hate to admit it, but I’m head over heels infatuated with him.

There is one HUGE problem though. His achingly gorgeous abs, inked up arm, and cocky swagger belong to my boss, the high-profile, reality star bitch from hell and certified heinous human being, Bellini Chambers.

What I think is going to be an easy job assisting a glorified wench turns into a cluster f*ck of epic proportions.

Rating : ♥♥♥♥

My review :

I really liked R.S. Grey’s writing style in her previous book « The Design » as well as her funny characters. I remember laughing so much while reading Cammie’s thoughts. But now ! Now, I must admit she surprised me with this book, it was a totally whole new level of hilarious, sweet and cute !

Joséphine, aka « Jo » Keller is so damn funny ! She is real, authentic and represents ordinary people so well we can identify (Well, I meant very stunning ordinary people who has the chance to work with a very good-looking man, but still…).

She works hard to achieve her goals like anybody else, she lacks self-confidence like anybody else, her situation and her debts are real too ! Her phone calls and emails with her best friend Lily who stayed in Texas are ones any ordinary girl has with her own best friend and I loved the closeness it gives us with her character.
