My review : I don’t think anyone has escaped the craze around Dating you / Hating you’s release by Christina Lauren. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and when I did, I read it in one go. I didn’t sleep for an entire night to finish it. It was that good.
First, I’ll have to say I’m so pleasantly surprised by this book. I’ve loved all their previous series (some books more than others). However, I didn’t expect something like Dating you / Hating you. It was something else entirely and still, you could feel it was Christina Lauren. Their humor is there, their endearing characters as well but the subject is way more serious. I found that their characters were so well thought, the story was more mature. This book is really a favorite. Well done to those wonderful authors who succeeded in writing something a bit different from what they’re used to and doing it amazingly!
What I liked
I think you gathered by now how much I loved this book. It is totally addictive.
- The subject : As I said, I was pleasantly surprised by the theme tackled by Christina Lauren in this book. Gender equality is something I feel really strong about and I loved how it is dealt with in Dating you / Hating you.
- Evie : Evie’s character is definitely the main one for me. She represents the modern woman. She’s gorgeous, smart, funny and really strong. She’s career-oriented and successful except she needs to work harder than others (understand men, here) for it. I admired how well she dealt with everything. I found this character so inspiring and yes, she’s now in my TOP 3 of amazing woman character.
- Carter : Totally unexpected male character. Different from what I’m used to reading. No alpha-male here but the sweetest ever male character. He’s insanely hot but not your Hollywood actor kind of hot. He’s smart, funny and a bit of a geek. He’s just so sweet and ADORABLE. I have no other words. It was so refreshing reading about that kind of male character. So realistic.
- The chemistry : God, the chemistry between those two was off the charts! I loved every scene and every dialogue. I smiled, laughed, melted very time…
I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone who loved Christina Lauren’s previous books, to every romantic comedy lover and anyone who hasn’t discovered those wonderful authors yet (is it even possible?)!
More details :
Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they’re both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn’t enough to squash the fire.
But when their two agencies merge—causing the pair to vie for the same position—all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both thirtysomething professionals—so why can’t they act like it?
